How to apply for a Current Account

It only takes a few minutes to open a Halifax Current Account online.

Before you begin, make sure you have the following details to hand.

  • Details of your current bank account (if any).
  • Your employer's name and address.
  • Details of your previous address if you've lived at your current address for less than three years.

Existing Halifax customers - change from your existing current account to a standard current account
As a Halifax current account holder you can change your account to a standard current account and keep the same sort code and account number. Simply call 08457 20 30 40 or  visit your local branch. This service is not available online.

 This product may be right for you if...
  • You will not be paying in £1000 every month but you want the features of a current account.
  • You would like an overdraft (typical 19.5% EAR variable). The amount of overdraft we give you depends on your personal and financial circumstances.
  • You would use a Visa debit card to pay for goods and services in the UK and abroad.
