Important Information

How we've calculated the savings of over £800

  • We have not included certain benefits when working out the savings as it is impossible to know their value.
  • We have worked out the value of most Ultimate Reward Current Account benefits from what they would cost if you bought them from a number of different suppliers. Benefits are either single payments, for the first-year only or ongoing.
  • We have based the value of the travel insurance policy on an annual family policy (where the oldest person insured is 40), travelling worldwide (including USA) with Personal Baggage, Winter sports and Golf Cover, with Halifax Travel Insurance underwritten (insured) by Great Lakes Reinsurance (UK) PLC and provided through FirstAssist Insurance Services Ltd.
  • We have based the value of the RAC breakdown cover on the standard amount RAC charge for the same cover for one year (see, www.rac.co.uk/web/breakdowncover/uk for details).
  • We have based the value of the Home Emergency Cover on the amount we would charge to add home emergency cover to a Halifax home insurance policy.
  • We have based the value of the mobile phone insurance on the annual premium charged by Foneguard (see www.cusc.co.uk for details).
  • We have based the value of the Card Care benefit on an annual Card Care policy, provided by STAMS Ltd acting as agents for the insurer, St Andrew's Insurance plc.
  • We have based the value of the savings account benefit on a balance of at least £5000 held in a Halifax Instant Saver for one year.
  • If you open a new Halifax Home Mover or First-Time Buyer mortgage, we will give you a one-off bonus payment. The bonus payment is not available on mortgages bought through an agent or financial advisor.
  • The value of the interest-free overdraft is based on being charged the arranged overdraft rate equal to 19.5% EAR a year on a constantly overdrawn balance of £300 for a year.(EAR is the equivalent annual rate taking into account the interest rate and how often interest is paid but excludes any fees or charges.)
  • We have based the value of the 15% discount on car insurance on the average premium for Halifax Car Insurance taken out over the phone between February and April 2008. For joint accounts, the discount is only available to the customer named first on the account. The premium you pay and the saving you make will depend on your individual circumstances.
  • We have based the value of the home insurance on an average premium of £265 a year and the maximum 15% discount being given.
  • We have based the value of the offers with the discount card on:
    - the BT Broadband offer (you get a welcome cheque of up to £50 if you take BT Total Broadband Option 3);
    - the Npower offer (£80 cash back if you switch to Npower's dual fuel package and stay with Npower for at least 12 months); and
    - the Airport Lounge offer (value of £34, based on the standard cost of two adults using the lounge at Edinburgh airport).

Other discounts are available, but we cannot estimate their value.
