How to apply for a Halifax Student Current Account

It only takes a few minutes to open a Halifax Student Current Account online.

Before you begin you will need to have a confirmed place at university or college. When you apply you need to give us:

  • your university's or college's details;
  • your term-time address (if you don't have a term-time address you can provide this later once you've sorted out your accommodation);
  • your previous address (if you have lived at your current address for less than three years).

Existing Halifax customers - change from your existing current account to a Student Current Account
As a Halifax current account customer you can change your account to a Student Current Account and keep the same sort code and account number. Simply visit your local branch. This service is not available online.

 This product may be right for you if...
  • Your are a student in full-time higher education (university or college).
  • You would like the largest interest-free student overdraft of up to £3000 (typical 0% EAR  variable). The amount of overdraft we give you depends on your personal and financial circumstances and whether you make regular payments into the account.

Calls from BT landlines will cost  no more than 2p a minute plus a 7p connection fee. The price of calls through other telephone companies and from mobile phones will be different.  Lines are open between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday, 8am to 6pm on Saturdays, and 9am to 5pm on Sundays.
